hum

  • REDCAT 631 West 2nd Street Los Angeles, CA, 90012 United States (map)

Using the vulnerability of the human voice as a connective thread, the Isaura String Quartet weaves together hum, a program of music exploring hidden layers, transformations, and unspoken realities. In addition to works by composers Nicole Lizée and Laura Steenberge, the evening features two premieres: a newly commissioned quartet by acclaimed composer David Rosenboom, and a collaborative work by experimental vocalist Carmina Escobar and visual artist Sean Deyoe. The program concludes with the West Coast premiere of Alex Temple’s Behind the Wallpaper, a 35-minute song cycle drawing on indie pop, Weimar cabaret, Elizabethan music, and 19th-century Romanticism. Vocalist Julia Holter will join Isaura to perform this work. The Isaura String Quartet is Betsy Rettig, Emily Call, Jonathan Morgan, and Madeline Falcone.
