The Isaura String Quartet joins singers Timur Bebuksonov, Carmina Escobar and Scott Graff in a the world premiere of Gloria Coates' chamber opera Stolen Identity at the Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater.
A prodigious composer of orchestral and chamber works since the 1960s, Gloria Coates is acclaimed for uncanny music that is part microtonal-expressionist, part postminimalist—at once turbulent and serene. This rare California showcase of the Munich-based composer’s distinctive oeuvre features Symphony No. 10 (Drones of Druids on Celtic Ruins) for large brass ensemble and percussion; the world premiere of the chamber opera Stolen Identity; and Night Music, for alto saxophone, harp and gongs.
The program is performed by top instrumentalists and singers coming out of the CalArts community; special guests include tenor Timur Bekbosunov and saxophonist Ulrich Krieger.
Tickets available here for $20/$12 students.
